Immediate Past President Randy Mrsny started the necessary work to begin the new CRS Foundation, the mission of which is to provide a durable source of financial support for the advancement of educational and organizational activities that enrich and extend the research and development of CR-associated technologies. Just as Randy passed the gavel to me in Long Beach, the same type thing has happened with the CRS Foundation. It's now my turn to work diligently to further the causes of the CRS Foundation. Examples of such activities include set up and support of fellowships, lectures, and awards honoring individuals who have made notable advances in the areas of CRS related to bioactive delivery technologies.

The Consumer and Diversified Products (C&DP) is a track within CRS that is focused on controlled release of active ingredients in non-pharmaceutical applications. This track has traditionally involved food, nutritional, nutraceutic, cosmetic, cosmeceutic, consumer product, agricultural, chemical, and other applications and industries, but is open to all non-pharmaceutical work.

The Veterinary Track has a wealth of experience in diverse areas of animal health, including companion animal dosage forms, bioactive delivery to livestock, regulatory issues for animal health, veterinary medicine, imaging of dosage forms, formulation issues, in vitro and in vivo assessment of dosage forms, animal model development, animal vaccines, intraruminal formulations, intramammary formulations, transmucosal vaccination, animal models, providing target species data on bioactive materials in a timely manner, vaccine formulation and testing, and vaginal delivery of hormones. Hot topics of discussion in the Vet group are development of dosage forms that are capable of releasing bioactivites for a duration of days to years, influence of in vivo physiological characteristics on dosage form performance attributes, critical manufacturing avriables and design space of parenteral products, and novel release technologies.
