CRS Distinguished Service Award

The CRS 2009 Board of Directors selected Susan Cady as the 2009 Distinguished Service Awardee.

Susan CadySusan Cady has combined a distinguished career in the drug delivery industry with a record of service to CRS. Her current industry role is senior scientist in the Formulation Development Department at Merial LTD. In her career she has focused on the development and commercialization of animal health products. Her research interests include controlled release formulations, palatable oral formulations for companion animals, and CMC regulatory affairs. She has published numerous articles and is a co-inventor on more than 20 patents. These patents and her work in the industry have resulted in several commercial products, including controlled release products that provide up to 12 months of delivery. Cady’s commitment to the Controlled Release Society is evident through her service in a variety of roles over the past 18 years. She has served on the Board of Directors twice for a total of 10 years (2005–2009 and 1998–2004). She was treasurer (1998–2004) and served as president in 2008. She is currently serving as co-chair of the CRS Foundation and a member of the Joe Robinson Scholarship Selection Committee. She also served twice on the Board of Governors (now the Board of Scientific Advisors; 1991–1994 and 1996–1998). She has also participated in the Ag/Vet Committee, serving as its chair in 1994 and was a member of the CRS Strategic Planning Committee and chair of the Strategic Planning Team for Veterinary Applications. She was the organizer and co-chair of the CRS Controlled Release Technology for Veterinary Products Workshop held in Boston in 1999 and the organizer and co-chair of the CRS Protein and Peptide Controlled Release Delivery Workshop held in Baltimore in 1996. She received the 1989 Pennwalt Award presented by the Controlled Release Society for the Best Agrichemical Paper at the 1988 CRS Annual Meeting.
